The Post Dispatch is reporting that the chair of the Missouri Housing Development Commission and Nixon appointee Jeffrey Bay actually lives in Arkansas - and that Bay lied about his residency on recent financial disclosure filings. This is the second time Bay has been caught playing this game: previously he was forced to resign from a different political office in Parkville when a TV news station found out he was living outside the district.
Given the MHDC's somewhat turbulent history and Bay's stubborn residency issues, is it really appropriate for Nixon to continue protecting his 'old law school buddy'?
Lloyd Smith remarks:
“Given the serious allegations against Jeffrey Bay stemming from his potentially-illegal service on the Parkville Board of Aldermen, it is stunning that Jay Nixon has continued to protect Bay for this long. The MHDC has a history of conflicts of interest and corruption, and it needs a leader who has not been tainted by scandal ... and we urge Jay Nixon to find a replacement who is qualified for the job—not simply one of his old college buddies.”
