Jay Nixon can no longer parade the line that Missouri's unemployment is below the national average. Under his leadership in 2010, Missouri had the third-worst percentage job loss in the country; getting outperformed by every surrounding state.
So much for Nixon's ridiculous claim (made during the State of the State); "after losing jobs back in 2008 and 2009, we turned the corner in 2010." His rhetoric ran into a giant brick wall when the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the new unemployment numbers, confirming that Nixon is dangerously out of touch.
It's not so much that he was wrong about the economy, or that his economic policies have failed - what makes the situation so disturbing is that he spent most of the last year flying around the state to talk about jobs. And then he ended up coming in 47th place out of 50. He might as well have just stayed home to play golf.
