To our knowledge Skelton hasn't issued a statement or even recognized his involvement in the event up until the point where its funding origins started drawing serious public scrutiny. This isn't exactly the shining beacon of fiscal conservatism and political courage that Skelton has tried to portray himself as in the past.
It remains to be seen whether Skelton will take a role in fixing the problem and help Missouri get reimbursed for the $100,000 in misappropriated funds used to help fund alcohol, prime rib and pan seared salmon for the event.
Event organizers are claiming that the money was justified because they spent a lot of it locally – if the only objective of the stimulus was to spend money with no discernible long term purpose or prospect of creating jobs, they surely succeeded at this task.
