Being in the top ten in the country is usually a good thing. Being recognized by Congressional Quarterly for being one of the top ten out-of-state fundraisers is probably not a good thing.
Sowers raised 80.9% of his money from outside the state. Given the amount, it's not surprising that CQ made a mistake and accidentally said he was from Texas... sometimes its hard to remember where he is supposedly running.
CQ makes a perfectly understandable mistake.
Despite his New York banking connections, Tommy is still amusingly trying to portray himself as "a guy with a truck and a dog." We call that amusing because not too long before announcing his Congressional bid he traded in his New York-registered luxury SUV. He has yet to announce any real policies, but hey, he has a pickup truck!
Tommy Sowers, an ex-Green Beret challenging U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson of southeast Missouri's 8th District, referenced the recent victory of Republican Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts, even though Brown is a Republican and Sowers is a Democrat.
"In a year in which guys in trucks do well, I'm a guy in a truck with a dog," Sowers said.
Seriously? How long is this guy going to keep talking about the truck? Why not start talking about how to solve problems or create new policy?
It's not just that trading in your SUV to shape your 'political image' smacks of opportunism, it's disappointingly shallow. Keep in mind this is the same guy that said he would form an opinion on cap-and-trade AFTER he gets elected.
Does he really think he can run on the 'I Drive A Truck' ticket?
All Tommy can talk about is how much San Francisco and Greenwich Village money he has gotten and his support for Pelosi care. Hey, Tommy, why don't you tell us where you stand on gays in the military? As a military man, I'm sure you've taken a position. I'm sure your friends who do fundraisers for you in San Francisco and the Central West End know what that position is. So,'fess up, Tommy.
