In mid-December we wrote about Tommy Sowers' inexplicable failure to file a personal financial disclosure. Financial disclosure is important to understanding the workings of the government - without them it would be much more difficult to identify possible conflicts of interest.
We wrote the following:
Could Tommy Sowers be trying to dump his financial connections to New York before he files? Disclosures have to cover the preceding calendar year, so there's not much he can do about his finances six months ago. But he may be trying to put things into shape before he has to face public scrutiny.
Maybe if he spent more time coming up with constructive policy solutions (heck, any policy would be good at this point) he wouldn't have to spend so much time hiding.

If he really possessed the leadership qualities he's always telling people about, he would understand the merit of public disclosure and embrace it. Instead, he runs and hides from the rules that everyone else obeys. There are any number of reasons why a politician might not want to disclose his personal finances. But learning that he sold his New York registered luxury SUV right before announcing his bid for Congress made us wonder.
