UPDATE:
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Sen. Jeff Smith has been questioned by FBI agents.
Unconfirmed reports allege the fallout from the Jeff Smith situation is wider than initially thought - they state that Rep. Steve Brown was wired (as in bugged) during session, implicated, and that his resignation is imminent.

The rumors are plausible, given their close political association throughout the years. They both attended the same high school, and Steve was unofficially involved in Smith’s contentious 2004 primary bid – Milton Ohlsen has since claimed that Steve was a major part of the campaign finance committee that prompted the initial investigation. It’d be surprising if Jeff Smith’s career gets annihilated and Steve Brown walks away with clean hands.
A third Democrat may be involved, who has not yet been named – we suspect it is Mr. Plum in the library with the candlestick.
Jeff Smith and Steve Brown have gone to considerable lengths to neither confirm nor deny rumors surrounding their departure from Missouri politics: take that as you may.
