Senator Pat Roberts, a Kansas Republican, became the first Senator to announce he would be voting against President Obama’s Supreme Court nomination, Sonya Sotomayor.
This won’t be the first time Robert’s has voted against her, he voted no to her federal appeals court nomination in 1998.
Robert said, “I voted 'no' in 1998. I did not feel she was appropriate on the Appeals Court. Since that time, she has made statements on the role of the Appeals Court that I think is improper and incorrect. I think that we should be judging people not on race, not on gender or background or ethnicicity or a very telling story.”
At least Roberts is coming out and saying something. He is correct; a judicial pick should be based on how well they can interpret the law, not on anything else.
