Finally, Senator Arlen Specter showed his true colors and defected yesterday to the Democrat Party. His defection has nothing to do with his weak-kneed statement that this was no longer “Reagan’s big tent party” it had everything to do with political expediency and calculation.

Senator Specter did not switch parties because of his stimulus vote, or because of his waffling on other conservative issues, he switched parties to flat out get re-elected. Specter had long been a thorn in the side of the GOP, but seemed to revel in the attention paid to him by Republicans and Democrats as a key swing vote---Well, Arlen, you are swing vote no more, I am sure you have found a comforting home as a Rank and File Democrat.

Recent polling showed Specter down double-digits in a GOP primary, and let’s face it; he is not a stellar campaigner, so a tough GOP primary campaign seemed very unappealing. Senator Specter instead of standing up for his beliefs and explaining his switch, took the low road and said he was unhappy about his treatment by GOP leaders after his stimulus vote, and because 200,000 people changed their registrations to become Democrats. So, Senator, you are going to switch parties and alter your beliefs because of voter registrations and your treatment by some GOP leaders?

Even though Specter made the decision base purely on politics, let the source be the first to declare this is the worst political calculation of Specter's career, and he will go down in Defeat...The GOP is better off without their Specter RINO.

KC Council Plays Politics with Police Budget

It seems as if Kansas City Councilwomen Jan Marcason and Cathy Jolly are on a crusade to justify their vote to cut the police department budget, yet at the same time wage a PR campaign blaming everyone else but themselves for the cuts. At a time when one of the top priorities in Kansas City should be to cut down on crime, Marcason and Jolly are playing politics with public safety dollars.

Both councilwomen wanted the recent police budget task force discussions closed to the public so they could form a united front and work out issues behind closed doors. Yet within hours of each meeting they were trashing Chief Jim Corwin and assuming they know more about his budget than he does. One would assume that the Police Chief knows what he needs and does not need, and one would assume that the councilwomen would show him more respect.

For some reason the City Council does not understand Corwin when he says that the cuts they are proposing will lead to fewer police on the streets, plain and simple. To break it down for the KC Council, the public safety budget cuts would include early retirements, leading to as many as 80 police officer vacancies over the next year. Also,
reductions in overtime and civilian layoffs would probably pull additional officers off the streets to fill civilian positions. And, unless new money is found, the current academy class will not be hired. All this means there will be fewer cops on the streets. That flies in the face of a council promise a few years back to add 20
additional officers every year.

Maybe the council is so concerned about the dress code at Power and Light that they cannot evaluate the police budget with a clear-mind. We at the Source wonder how much money was wasted by the city council prolonging meetings over the Power and Light dress code. Maybe the next time the council decides to micro-manage the lives of KC citizens they should think twice, and save the money for more cops?

Michigan Governor to Highlight Economic Record in Truman Days Speech

The Source has learned that Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm will be the featured speaker at the annual Missouri Democrat Party Truman Days celebration in Kansas City this weekend.

As an exclusive to the source, we have learned Governor Granholm will tout her economic resume as Governor of Michigan.

Her accomplishments include:

---12.6% Unemployment Rate

---Michigan lost 56,000 payroll jobs in 2008

---A loss of 43,000 Manufacturing Jobs since January 2008 (Losses of 19,400 jobs in the auto-industry)

---The University of Michigan RSQE November 2009 forecast predicts accelerating job cuts in Michigan of 124,000 in 2009, which would outpace job loss any year this decade. Also, job cuts are expected to remain substantial in 2010 (-49,000). If these forecasts hold, Michigan would record ten consecutive years of job loss.

Congratulations Missouri Democrats, you have selected the perfect speaker to articulate the national Democrats economic and prosperity talking points.

Obama's First 95 Days

It has been a LONG 95 days! Only 3 3/4 years to go.....

By executive order, President Barack Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in migration assistance to the Palestinian refugees and conflict victims in Gaza. The "presidential determination" which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States was signed on January 27 and appeared in the Federal Register on February 4.

Few on Capitol Hill took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who have displayed their overwhelming support of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the parliamentary election of January 2006.

A review of Barack Obama's most recent actions since he was inaugurated:

His first call to any head of state as president was to Mahmoud Abbas, leader of Fatah party in the Palestinian territory.

His first one-on-one interview with any news organization was with Al Arabia television.

He ordered Guantanamo Bay closed and all military trials of detainees halted.

He ordered all overseas CIA interrogation centers closed.

He withdrew all charges against the masterminds behind the USS Cole and 9/11.

Now we learn that he is allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refuges to move to and live in the US at American taxpayer expense.

He sends a Congressional delegation to Cuba.

He bows the the Saudi King.

With a broad smile, he shakes hands with Chavez.

Homeland Security issues a report stating that veterans, gun owners, Americans that oppose abortion are all considered domestic terrorists.

He promotes a treaty with Mexico, the treaty of the Americas, that would require licensing and registration of all firearms, and would forbid reloading without a Federal license.

He spends 13 TRILLION dollars of our childern's inheritance.

He wants to ban coal power plants.

He wants to institute Cap and Trade.

He wants national health care.

He wants a 3 million man "national service corp"

He wants to charge former Administration figures with "War Crimes"

Liberal Blogger Alert: Tony's Kansas City

When Tony's Kansas City (TKC) first started it was an amusing blog where people could go to and get an occasional laugh or opinion on Kansas City, it was a blog you would check during the day to see the happenings' in KC and maybe enjoy a witty comment.
Unfortunately, it has now turned into a blog that would make the Daily Kos envious. It is flat out liberalism spewed on a day-to-day basis.

And trust us, spewed is an accurate term. TKC gets his information from his "tipsters" who seem more like Democrat operatives and bureaucrats. Straight from the left he has risen, finding that his best bet on audience approval is to tilt his ample eye to
promoting Democrat ideals.

TKC has hit his high note by attacking Mayor Funkhouser. We understand acquiring a target for all the enemies to group at your site is a smart, albeit easy ploy. But lately his material is waning. Now his attack is aimed at the Funk for agreeing to attend a Kansas City Young Republicans meeting at the end of April. If TKC has it right
- the mayor is a part of the vast right-wing conspiracy - if true, would he really showcase this at "The Levee"-speaking to Republicans under 30?

TKC seems more enthralled with putting pictures on the blog instead of giving factual and interesting information, maybe because of this, TKC is not able to understand the dynamics of being a non-partisan mayor of a large city. While we all know Funkhouser is a Democrat, it is not uncommon for officials in "non-partisan" positions of power to reach out and speak to different groups of varying viewpoints. In fact, we remember the vaunted Kay Barnes doing the exact same thing. YOUR HIGH PITCHED SHRILL comments about the Funk are making you a one note band.

Now, Tony's Kansas City is taking swipes at the successful Kansas City Tax Day Tea Party - calling the participants "radicals" and saying it is an "effigy of Obama." Seriously, does TKC spend most of his time watching re-runs of Rachel Maddow? There were hundreds of these parties across the United States with an estimated 750,000 attendees. Without doing the math, that looks on paper like a pretty big fringe to me. My only guess is that TKC has drank the "kool aid" and cannot believe people would be upset about paying taxes or shoving off billions of dollars worth of debt to future generations. TKC may feel this way too if he was a part of the now barely 51% of the people that actually pay taxes.

So, here's to you TKC - it looks like you are ready and willing to take a HARD left and sacrifice any real individual thought that you might have.

You are a talented blogger who has succumbed to the libs. I'm sure the CCP blog is happy to link you and help their traffic. Let all the other "same song, second verse" blogs get in line with you. Liberal blogs unite.

Martin has MONEY Trouble

Looks like State Representative Martin Rucker (St. Joseph) had to be sued to get him to pay a medical bill---I guess he thought just because he was a State Representative he didn't have to pay his bills?

Rucker and his wife Lavell were sued in August of 2007, and it was settled out of court in June 2008. For someone who espouses fiscal responsiblity, and is pushing for TAX increases currently as a member of the St. Joseph school board this is an interesting revelation.

Well, at least we know why he is pushing for government-run healthcare as a member of the Missouri House---he wants YOU to pay for his medical bills, as he apparently does not want to ante up....
