The earmark filled Economic “Gimme More” Bill passed the House on a strictly party line vote. Some conservative Democrats voted against the bill, and should be commended for that bravery, but not enough to make a difference. Not one Republican voted for it. Here is why.
Despite a publicity driven walk around the capital, President Barack Obama could care less about Republican votes in the House. He doesn’t need them, he knows he doesn’t need them, and he doesn’t give a darn about how they feel about that.
President Obama will, on every major issue, bow to Nancy Pelosi’s wishes when it comes to packages that work through the House. In this case he pretended to listen, then didn’t even lift a finger to get one thing changed in the bill. He made no attempt at compromise, no attempt to seek any Republican votes.
It remains to be seen if he will listen to Senate Republicans, a groups he has to worry a bit more about politically. Our guess is that he will not.
