This is making the rounds around the internet. Keep this in mind when you hear talk of a Democratic mandate.
Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2008 Presidential election:
Number of States won by: Democrats: 20; Republicans: 30
Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000; Republicans: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million; Republicans: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2; Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in rented or government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."
What a load of crap. The "Professor" needs to take a few remedial courses.

Obama won 28 states and McCain 22. He won the popular vote by nearly 10 million (at last count).
Farm subsidies are a form of welfare too.
People are on welfare in red states too, and the vast majority of people in blue states do NOT live in government housing.
Red states get more money back from federal taxes than they pay in.
BTW, it's Hamline University not Hemline.

You forget the most important number
Votes for Obama 66,882,230
Votes for McCain 58,343,671
That means more people voted for Obama... SO no matter how you parse the numbers... YOU LOST!!!!!
Only one number counts, electoral votes, and in that number, McCain had his butt handed to him 365 to 173

Oh, you should also maybe post about the education rate of the places that voted for McCain. Other studies show that the less educated you are the more Republican you will be. Oh, you should also post the abortion rate of red vs blue... Oh, also do not forget the out of wedlock pregnancies...

Land doesn't vote, and more land doesn't give the owner more voting power. Similarly, the part of the population that doesn't vote doesn't count in the results - only the votes matter.
What a sad spectacle.

This is a hoax that was started in 2000, and the numbers apply to the 2000 election when Bush won.
