Has the McCain camp successfully laid the groundwork, through an admirable rumor network, for a groundbreaking pick? If so, hats off to them!

The big news... A plane went from Anchorage to OH late last night, supposedly with a woman and two teens. And Sarah Palin just jumped to the top of the rumor list.

Goodbye Consequences. Goodbye Tradition.

Today the Democratic Party threw out tradition after tradition, eschewing everything that many of us loved and respected growing up.

Today was the first day for the general public to see that Florida and Michigan were allowed to seat delegates. This happened earlier, of course, but it happened behind the scenes. To the Democratic Party, the rule of their own law is meaningless. Today, Florida and Michigan were allowed to cast votes for President even though they broke party rules. No personal responsibility. No consequences. What a great lesson for our children.

One of the most exciting nights of the convention used to be the roll call. Even though it always went long, the stem-winding state introductions were charming and educational. Today, based on false unity, the Clinton and Obama camps forced the roll call to stop short, giving many Clinton supporters no change to express their choice.

Clinton willingly participated in this sham. She told delegates today they were “released”. And while she said she wouldn’t tell them what to do, she also knew the fix was in. The roll call would not reflect the true feelings of Democrats from sea to shining sea.

This hit home when Missouri cast its ballots. If you will remember, Obama barely won the Missouri primary. But today, only six Missouri delegate votes were cast for Hillary Clinton. Most of Missouri’s Democrats who preferred Clinton were disenfranchised by a back room deal.

It is a shame that such rock solid traditions, such time-honored memories, can be tossed to the curb in the name of "unity."

All Clinton, All the Time

Anyone watching the television coverage of last nights session at the Democratic National Convention may have been confused. Despite several high profile speeches, including Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, only one was shown in its entirety. What happened to the rest of the speakers?

Four years ago a young State Senator from Illinois rocked the house with a stirring Keynote Address. But this year’s Keynote Speaker was relegated to an early slot, and was virtually uncovered by television. Mark Warner should be righteously ticked off.

Those who did see Governor Sebelius’ speech on CSPAN or online were massively under impressed. Sebelius may have had some lines, but her delivery was lacking. When you are trying to rile up a crowd that large, with that many distractions, you have to be great, not good. Sebelius is not great.

But this night was only about Hillary. And, unsurprisingly, so was Hillary’s speech. With less than a dozen references to the actual nominee, and none which praised him in any specific way, Clinton gave a potentially great speech that benefited only herself.

When it came to Clinton discussing Barack Obama, the speech was less than lukewarm and unpersuasive. One only had to watch Michelle Obama’s stiff reactions to see the continued bad blood surging. It would be hard to argue with a conspiracy theorist who thought that was a 2012 warm up speech.

The Clinton’s grip on the convention is moving forward. Tonight Bill Clinton speaks. Already the mainstream media is highlighting his speech over even the acceptance speech of Joe Biden. This is Bill’s night, not Joe’s, and the Obamas will have to suffer through it. But there is good news for Barack. The rumor says that Bill is dissing him and will not attend his speech at Invesco Field. Maybe, after tonight, Barack can have a piece of the Party.

MOPNS Swings....and Misses

We love it when fellow bloggers take swipes at The Source. Not only does it increase traffic, but it lets us show how much smarter we are then them; like knowing how to spell "assassination".

Missouri Political News Service (MOPNS) takes The Source to task because we dared to call on Barry Obama to come out and at least wave to his supporters. MOPNS thinks we missed the boat because of a recent arrest and alleged assassination plot against Barry. Because of that, they think Barry is justified in hiding from fans.

In fact, if MOPNS had bothered to dig a little further, they would have found that the supposed assassination arrests turned out never to be a "credible threat." Law enforcement authorities are now saying, "We're absolutely confident there is no credible threat to the candidate." It was much ado about nothing, but we already knew that.

So, MOPNS, are you willing to admit Barry could have shown a little more love to the very supporters he claims to owe his success?

Bland and Predictable Works for Us

After watching the first night of the Democratic convention, The Source has to say that we are glad Barry Obama didn’t make a bold choice and pick Claire McCaskill or Kathleen Sebelius. His choice of Joe Biden has absolutely set the tone for this week: bland and predictable.

Picking either Sebelius or McCaskill would have likely ticked off Hillary Clinton supporters, which would have made the convention much more interesting. As it is, Clinton (and her semi-able surrogate, Bill) will probably be underwhelming in their speeches the next two nights. If Barry had picked a woman as VP, Clinton would have been on fire!

Luckily, Barry left open the door for John McCain to make a game changing pick. Whoever he picks, and whenever he announces, he should easily be able to top the dismal levels of enthusiasm Barry elicited with his selection.

"Invisible" Obama has Left the Building

Barry Obama hid out in the garage of his hotel, not even bothering to wave to his supporters as he left for his campaign event that is not open to the public.  Sounds like a man of the people to us.
